Verified Purchase. This software is a great overview of the tools in illustrator. When I was done I felt like I really knew what I was doing, so I opened up illustrator to start trying out what I learned, and I realized that while I knew how to use most of the tools, I didn't know how to use them together to actually make something. The tools break things up into tiny snippets and outside of a few super simple designs they do not really show you how to "put it all together". With that said, I have been muddling through it and slowly figuring out how to use the stuff together, and if you already know the basics and want to learn in-depth how to use each tool, this is a great way to learn.
For what this covers, it does so in a very easy to understand way, I just wish there was a volume 2 that showed real world projects from beginning to end. I have not seen anything so far that does this outside of a few tutorials on the web so I will say that this isn't too much of a downside. I do want to be clear though that I really benefited from these videos and would recommend them to anyone trying to learn illustrator. I also want to add that the book is very small and covers a few things in incredible detail primarily the parts that changed from CS4 to CS5 , but that it is not really a very useful book.
I have been using these video learning tools for a couple of years, and they are great. Very comprehensive. Of course there is more to learn in Illustrator, but who wants to spend over a hundred dollars on Deke McClelland or see him on Lynda. You can always supplement your learning if you want to know everything.
These sets come with video and lesson files on CD. There is also a very short book that comes with it. I am telling you that this is the way to go for now until disk drives are obsolete. Very entertaining, and interesting to learn!
Better than a text! Before I got this video, i disliked Illustrator but after watching this video, I watch this everyday and i now use Illustrator everyday. The instructor is slow so you will be able to follow up unlike some other videos that you have to keep rewinding to keep pace with the instructor, wish they have a video for advanced users, I will definitely purchase a product that's made by this guys.
Not even close. My students are so smart, they want to know how to use the gradient mesh by week two. Do they cover that here on the DVD? They talk about colors generally, but do they cover the eyedropper and how to use it with the gradient mesh? Is this the most powerful way to create seamless amazing vector art? There are some marvelous tutorials on youtube that I refer my students to.
Illustrator is such a wonderful application, but there are so many things they need to update. CS6 has some good changes and some not so nice ones. Please Adobe, listen to your users. We've got lots of ideas for improvement. This is a good DVD, but just not as much covered as I'd like to see. Love it. Have had it years! The other lady instructor has heavy English accent and to fast and I have to play over and over again and her accent and tone of voice is very irritating so I have to ship her.
